Mac options by job
Bluebeam’s native Mac edition reached end of life in 2023. Its browser and mobile options are separate from the Windows Revu desktop application. A replacement decision needs to distinguish reading a drawing, measuring it, and participating in a team review.
| Job | Option to evaluate | Boundary to check |
|---|---|---|
| Local drawing markup and takeoff | PolyPDF | Cannot join Bluebeam Studio |
| Cross-platform PDF markup | Drawboard | Confirm features on the actual Mac or web version |
| Required Studio workflow | A supported Bluebeam route | A third-party PDF editor does not establish Studio compatibility |
A local desktop candidate
PolyPDF describes Mac and Windows apps for calibration, measurements, annotations, and drawing review. These are vendor descriptions rather than our test results. Before buying, use your own drawing and export a worksheet with the units and quantities your estimator expects. Review the current evaluation limits separately from paid features.
Browser and team review
Drawboard provides web markup tools and publishes measurement documentation. Confirm which application and plan contains the feature you need; a Windows feature list is not evidence of Mac parity. If a client requires Bluebeam Studio, retain an approved Bluebeam workflow for that part of the project.
A five-minute handoff test
Use a plan with two labeled dimensions in different directions. Calibrate one, measure the other, and compare units. Add a comment and a measurement, save the PDF, and reopen it in the recipient’s actual application. Ask whether annotations remain editable and whether worksheet totals survived. Record differences rather than assuming every PDF annotation is interchangeable.
Offline and subscription decisions
If you need offline work, disconnect during the trial and test opening, saving, and exporting. Separate the app’s own collaboration features from compatibility with an existing project system. Compare the license, necessary features, and update policy together; a lower purchase price alone does not cover the cost of changing a team workflow.
